The founders, both ex-BBC engineers, have a fanatical interest in audio reproduction for both professional and domestic environments. Since the early 1990s Mallory Nicholls has been manufacturing the world's leading 5.1 monitoring electronics for recording studios and mastering houses under the MAGTRAX brand; whilst the BAFTA and Palme d'Or award-winning Lee Taylor, has many years experience in recording and mixing for the film, television and music industries.

Leema Acoustics was founded in 1998 as a vehicle for Mallory and Lee to push the boundaries of loudspeaker design in order to create a miniature loudspeaker capable of outperforming a system many times its size. The original research focused on new design principles and mathematical models as software tools available at the time were simply not good enough requiring Leema to write their own.  The result, released some four years later, was a micro monitor of unsurpassed technical and musical excellence called Xen.  Initially the Xen was only available to the professional audio market but over time audiophiles became increasingly aware of the quality of Leema products, which are designed to be run all day, everyday.

With growing interest from Hi-Fi enthusiasts, audiophiles and audio professionals, the Leema range is evolving in to a class-leading portfolio.  Where possible, Leema source all major components from within the EU.
